This artwork had a long process of brainstorming, I wanted to use mannequin figures that would almost be like puppets in a show, but with a stylised design. I incorporated her figure in a world globe. She has light bulbs on her torso, and a skirt made of lamps, and she has an on & off switch on her wrist. In other words, in a switch we lighten up the stage that is our world and become performers.
We go through life acting according to how we are educated and with the tools we manage to gather along the way, we argue our way in and out of every situation we find ourselves living in, we can be dramatic, silent or even sing throughout emotional circumstances, we can play pretend or even mirror our interiors to the exterior because at the end of the day – its a wrap, we fall into our sleep and our subconscious takes over and carefully makes plans for the next day.
After some research about this concept I became aware that Shakespeare himself said “ All the Worlds a stage, and all men and women merely players”, I almost pulled the plug to this show but decided to become a performer 😉
